As I was talking to friends I realize that college is almost around the corner for me (me being in the 10th grade) and I still don't have a clue of where I want to work at after college. I know what I want to be which is a Graphics Designer and a Computer Engineer but no clue of where to apply. What I want to know is what is you dream job(s) and where would you apply and if you don't have one tell me one of your hobbies you love doing.

I would love to be a professional 3D animator! Wouldn't mind applying for Pixar, seems fun.

Doing something with tech would be cool! Maybe web development? I don't have my mind set on anything concrete at this point.

I'm interested in working with any kind of digital design. I've looked at some colleges and I'm gonna apply for one with 3D animations and another that focuses on media and communications.

I'm also interested in anything that has to do with computers, but my knowledge is far behind that of my design knowledge. I might apply for something in the computer area too but I don't know exactly what yet.

I need very little prompting for this kind of post, hope you don't mind me rambling on where to begin, haha.

I would start by learning how to program on a basic level (if-then-else statements, while and for loops, logic gates, etc), and learning your number systems (binary, hex, and less commonly octal). Python, PHP, Javascript, and Java are all good starter languages. Windows batch files can be really useful as well. Oh, and document, document, document. It's so important to document your code as you make it, so you can understand it later. Almost every language in existence has a structure for comments, definitely learn how to do them in your language of choice.

To be frank, knowing the basics of coding can be very useful in any job that uses the computer, even something like digital design; I recommend it to anyone interested in working with computers in any fashion for a living. For example, Photoshop lets you write custom scripts for macros and such in JavaScript (p-sure it's javascript, that's what I remember :p); as such knowing how to do basic coding means you can write your own plugins if you can't find what you need online.

http://codingbat.com/java <- One of my late professors swore by this website to learn the basics of java. Codecademy and W3Schools can also be really good.

If you find yourself enjoying the basics: Learning your data structures, and trying to wrap your head around object oriented programming are good steps after you start to get a basic grasp of things.

Please contact KaseyA in game, she's a software engineer, she can expand on what Akago is saying here. It's the way to go right now in today's market. There's going to be more call for this skill now more than ever before! Find a good school, she went to UMASS Dartmouth, they have a good program, but there are certainly better schools out there, but she was a Massachusetts resident, so the tuition gains made that school worthwhile for her at the time. Dedicate yourself to school 110% employers are looking for cumulative GPA not just in major GPA.
That's my 2 cents worth, hope it helps, and good luck!

Honestly, I want to be a psychiatrist and well know and respected exotic animal breeder. I truly believe animals can help saves peoples lives and mental health is one of the least respected medical fields. You can take an xray and see a broken bone, you can draw blood work and see if someone is vitamin deficient. There are no xrays, brain scans to show if someone has depression or anxiety. I want to be the person to help someone had a second chance at life they wouldn't have otherwise.
