Here's my guide to a quick and tileable sugar cane farm:

    What you’ll need:
    • 1 Sugarcane
    • 1 Hopper
    • 1 Hopper Minecart
    • 1+ Powered Rail
    • 1 Redstone
    • 1 Redstone Torch
    • 1 Redstone Repeator
    • 1 Comparator
    • 1 Observer
    • 1 Piston
    • 1 Water Bucket
    • 1 Rail
    • 1 Sand/Dirt
    • Misc Blocks

    First Step:

Setup your blocks in this fashion:
(You will use: 1 Water, 1 Dirt/Sand and 1 Sugarcane)

    Third Step:

Every 10-15 blocks add a powered rail to make sure the minecart does not slow down too much.

    Fourth Step:

Add blocks in to stop sugarcane from going too far away.
    (You'll use: Blocks)

    Fifth Step:

At the end of your rail line setup your collection area like this:
    (You'll use 1 Powered Rail, 1 Hopper, 1 Comparator)

    Then, add these blocks:
    (Yo'll use 1 Repeater, 1 Redstone Torch)

    Sixth Step:

Add chests, and place your hopper minecart on the rail and it picks up items it will stop at the station and unload its contents.

Repeat steps 1-4 for a tile-able farm, remember to place powered rails every 10-15 blocks.
